This sun-loving plant from India has been grown in Asia and Africa for more than 4000 years. Basil is even mentioned in the Bible. This king of herbs is not only famous in Europe, it is also widely used in the Thai and Indonesian kitchen. Basil belongs to the mint family, as is clear from the minty, anise notes that accompany its sweetness.
